low ph

    hey guys my ph was at 7.8 today so i pulled a cup of water out and put an airstone in it for about 15 min then tested that water and it read 8.8 obviously i have an air problem i have a fluval 405 filter and a rio 600 powerhead running and a aquaclear protien skimmer in A 90 gallon do i have enough circulation ot is that my canopy is to tight i was thinking of installing a fan to help introduce fresh air into the canopy

    I would have the LFS test you PH for ya.. then take it from there. Doesn't sound right for it to change that fast.

    P.H means little , If it was 7.8 early in the A.M then thats fine whats more important is the Carbonates levels thats what controls P.h P.h controls nothing. And f you are using a liquid test kit then Ph levels are a guess at best.. Check the DKH..Or Alk levels If they are fine then Ph will be fine if the low reading concerns yous just simple add an air stone to the system..

    ok going to get a dkh test kit ill see what that says what is a good level for fish and inverts

    When was the last time you cleaned out the canister filter? Sponges and filter pads deplete the O2 from the water. So does a nicely closed up house. Co2 will bring your ph levels down. My ph used to be 7.6-7.8 at night and barely hit 8.0 in the evening. Luna

    You need to check your Magnesium levels and also Alkilinity. If you have low mag. your pH will not hold. It will drop sharply. Same with Alkilinity. This can also happen if you calcium is too high.

    If you have a skimmer you should be getting plenty of air.
