when you eat something super sweet like chocolate or sugar drink then your sugars go up..however it does not sustain you so you swing way low as fast as you go up. So you are going form one extreme to the other.

Eat things like milk, cheese, nuts etc to keep it up. When you drop to the point that you feel shakey you do need to eat something sweet to bring it up...but try OJ or milk as to not swing over the top.

Honestly next time you have the spell like that go to the ER. Those symptoms dont sound like something to mess with to me....could be something else causing the other symptoms

It should probably be pointed out that Schackmel is a registered nurse with a masters and also teaches nursing students. I would heed her advice.

I believe in the UK they have socialized medicine and can't just go to a doctor or ER. That is the danger of socialized medicine and I pray we here in the USA never have to endure that. The advice about eating more complex carbohydrates is sound and what was left out was 4-6 small servings of a good protein source throughout the day to keep the blood sugar "stable".

Good advice. I buy string cheese in bulk and eat 5 to 6 of them a day.

When I was running the fish store, I would often get tied up with customers or a project and I wouldn't pay attention to how long it was since I ate something. My part-timers would say, "Curt, you need to eat" and I would say, "I will as soon as I get this done" or "I will in a second" or any number of excuses. They eventually stopped doing that. They would just grab $5 out of the register, buy food from the restaurant 2 doors down, buy me some food and then shove it in my face and say, "EAT NOW". I'm sure it looked funny to customers to have part-time teenagers bossing around the owner/manager but they would recognize I was getting shakey before I even realized it.

I went to the doctors on friday & they said that all my blood test done over the past few years shoed i had very low blood sugar levels & that they advice to stop taking sugar from the nurse was not the best idea!

He said that for some reason i burn cal & sugar at at very fast rate which is not normal. He said my body over produces insalin in a responce to any sugar weather it be bad or good sugar.......& that the most commen reason being that its a pre- diabet state which means my pancreus has gone into over drive but will inthe end burn out! other less likely reasons are ones id rather not think about!
He said cutting out sugar could at the very worst put me in a coma so i should keep to my normal diet till i have been sorted out with a diabetic specialist which will take up to 5 weeks to get a appointment!.
He also said that in the last 3 year i had been to the doctors due to my feet & hand turning blue numb And on different time with worrys about night swaets & heart palps & bad dreams but they couldnt fine a reason for any of this but the doctor has now told me that all the thing i have had trouble with have been due to my suagr levels getting very low so at least i no why i get like that now which is a good.
Thanks for all ya help, if it wasnt for all your pushing i really dont no what would have happened!

The numbess is peripheral neuropathy. A very common symptom in diabetics I'm afraid. The cold sweats is a later sign of hypoglycemia. You need to carry around a few hard candies with you and if you feel any of this weirdness coming on pop one of those in.

Sorry I get into my diehard nursing teaching mode sometimes.

We carry tubes of oral glucose on the rigs with us...but usually never use them because whenever we encounter something like this, we tell them to just drink a glass of OJ or something and they come too. But yeah, it's not something to mess around with. If your BG is too low for too long you can do some damage.

All I can say is WOW.. !!!
You need some good help.. FAST ....
The others gave you some good advice.. I have High Sugar. so can't help much..
Eating 4 or 5 light meals a day is a must.. When you feel your sugar is low..
OJ is about the best, but it is a fast boost, and go's away fast..
The machine you check your sugar is different then mine, so I can't understand your readings.. If my machine showed 4.. I would be in a coma..
Mine has droped to 40.. And I was sick, big time.. Mine should be around 90..
But is I can keep it around 150, I'm happy.. It used to be around 400..

    As for peripheral neuropathy..
I have it bad.. Had to have my right leg, and part of my left foot removed.. Due to other things.
But I take 2 Meds that really help.. Takeing together works good..
If you need the name of them, to ask your Doc. about.. PM me..
I want even tell you what I went thru for 2 years, befor being put on these meds..
The BIGGEST thing you need to do is get with a Doc. that can get your sugar where it's safe..
If I can help in any way PM me.. My Aunt has Low Sugar, so I do know some..
But about peripheral neuropathy, etc I do know..
And when anything turns Blue, you need to goto an ER, or what ever you have.. FAST

    Good Luck, Larry
