I just added a chiller and didn't realize it would hold water and now my sump is very low and I am afraid that it could get too low and the pumps suck in air. I don't have any saltwater or RO freshwater. I only need a gallon or so til tomorrow. What could I do?

You could buy some spring water. I'll give you a bump for other suggestions.

How big of a tank is it? If it's big enough, like >50 gallons, you can put in some distilled water from a supermarket. I wouldn't use spring water; the standard for spring water in terms of pollutants is lower than tap water, as in they can have more pollutants in spring water than in your local tap water, including goodies like arsenic, copper, and nearly anything else. Distilled, however, is typically nearly as pure as RO water.

If the tank is too small, mix salt into the distilled water so you don't give the tank a major swing.

You could go to Walmart and get distilled water for like $0.30/gal?

Thanks. I used some distilled water. I only needed about 1/3 gallon after all. Just enough to get me by until tomorrow. Tank is 58 gallons so I doubt I disrupted much.

turn the chiller off till you get some more water tomorrow, 1 more day without it wont kill your tank.

never get spring water for your fish tank it can have phosphates in it. (also spring water is not filtered by reverse osmosis) you only want r/o water which will be labeled purified drinking water or you can use the distilled as mentioned above.
