just float a gallon jug of any kind of water in your tank and it will displace 1 gallon till you get more water.

Displacement is where my mind went as well.

You either turn off the chiller and return the water to the system or you displace water via any means available.

I can understand not having RO/DI on hand but no salt ? what’s up with that? Never let yourself run out of a quality saltmix. You never know when you might have an issue and need to perform a water change. RO/DI could be replaced with tap (ack!) in an emergency – but no salt is a bit of a deal breaker.

Edit - just re-read your post, you said no saltwater....my old morning eyes read no saltmix ! lol -- back to the coffee for me !

Same opinion here....unplug the chiller and add not spring water but distilled drinking water. Best of luck to you!

Use it as a good excuse to buy that big coral you have been eying? "But honey, that little fish you like would have no pump if I didn't displace the water with this hammer coral colony. "

I see you've gotten some water to get you through the holiday, but in the future you might want to try one of those water distributors at grocery stores and gas stations. I use a glacier one which uses carbon, uv, and reverse osmosis and several other filters. It's not deionized but I've used that water for years and never had a problem. They are regularly maintained and once I saw the inside of one while the guy was changing the filters and the machine was totally legit.
However, I always test my source water before I use it because the minute you put your full faith in the water is when you might regret it.
