im going to go bare bottom and i know most people that go bare bottom go because they have sps dominated tanks that require very clean nutrient free water. Will LPS such as hammer/frogspawn have issues with such a tank?

sand annoys me now and i like the look of the european and japanese style of bare bottom tanks. I figure ill transfer all my corals and fish into a rubber maid for a day and ditch the sand, clean the tank out and replace it with starboard.

I like my sand :D It keeps my critters happy too I suppose. My crabs and such can scoot around a lot faster on the sand than they could when I had a bare bottom(not that one!!!:dizzy:)

well i took out all my hermit crabs a yr ago because they were more problematic than anything. The only crab i have is 1 emerald crab (this is a 22 gallon tank). i mostly rely on mexican turbo's, asterias and margarita snails for my clean up crew. Oh and also have 1 red foot conch and torpedo snail for the sand bed.

people typically do bare bottom so they can have higher flow in the tank to keep SPS happy. the high flow keeps detritis from settling, and thus it stays in the water column until it gets to your filter/skimmer/fuge. if you go bare bottom, you will get detritis build up on the bottom, and it will be much more obvious and ugly without the sand. so, you will need more flow. with the increased flow, your hammer/frogspawn/torch may not be happy.
