Some corals uses sweepers to sting other corals or hunt out food, but corals are always searching for food. If food touches the polyps they will often drag it in.

I had a frogspawn which Once a week I'd directly feed it some baby brine shrimp, the moment the food came in to contact with it it would draw it in to it's mouth. For the whole time I had it I never actually saw any sweepers during the day or night.
