Ok so my last tank i set up was a standard 40 gallon breeder. Initially i wanted to keep mostly sps. I purchased two Vortech MP10w wave makers for this tank. I persisted to keep the two pumps about 50% of full throttle in Ecosmart Tidal Swell Mode. I found that my sugar like black sand was getting thrown around alot and i was getting mounds/ridges of sand. You could see my bottom glass in the center of my tank. So after some thinking i realized that i only had a couple sps frags and turned the MP10s to Random Lagoon Mode. I have added some more LPS like frogspawn and a torch coral. My question is, with a mixed reef ( mostly zoas, mushrooms, a few LPS and Anemones, and a couple Sps) wouldnt the lagoon mode be the best Vortech mode? And can you still grown SPS in calmer waters alongside LPS? I mean it just seemed silly to have my tank pushing around so much water with only a couple sps frags. My sand is staying in place now too;) Mixed reefers lmk what kind of turnover rates and how much movement you have in your tanks to suit all types of coral.

also how do you figure out your overall turnover rate in your tank if your using Vortechs, cus they dont have a set gph?

2 vortech mp10s put out a total of 3150 gph when at 100% Since you have both pumps set to about 50% you would have max turnover rate of 40x, given that the pump randomly moves up and down i would say you are sitting between 20 and 40x. Maybe lower, but its hard to judge. Either way its better than a constant 40x. this way you have random flow, which is what most sps like.
