LR Rubble In Canister Filter

I am setting up my 45 gal, corner tank w/ 60 lbs of Live Rock and a Canister Filter. I have read that adding the LR Rubble to the filter is better than the ceramics. My filter has 2 chambers followed by a 3rd that has a sponge filter followed by a fine filter.

In order to make sure my canister does not become a nitrite (or is it nitrate?) factory I would like to fill one or both of the first 2 chanmbers with LR rubble. Some info I read said to put the LR in the 1st chamber and leave the ceramics in the 2nd, other say to use all LR rubble. Any thoughts on which is best? Do I need any sort of filter media before the LR?

Two more quick questions....how big should the rubble be? I have a bunch ranging from 1/4" up to 2"

And finally, I'm in the process of curring my LR in a seperate tub (my tank is sitting empty)...should I move the LR rubble into the filter right away to help cycle the tank, or should I wait until the LR is cured?

You are trying to avoid nitrates in your filter. I have never used a canister filter. I would add a sump instead, it will add to your water volume.

 

no need for it as long as you you have ceramic media if you want to add please add bio ball the plastic one better than ,in the canister filter if your tank is loaded you have to clean the the mechnical filteration like spong or cotton evre 3 to 4 day to keep you tank clear & to prevent the water become yellow in color & better to have phosphate remove media.;D
