Man, my LR stinks so bad. I touched it the other day and my hand stunk. I know there is so much dead stuff on it, but my tankmates are fine and everything seems to be okay in there. I would strategically take each and every rock out and rinse them off BUT I don't want to if I really don't have to. There are also tons of living things on it as well as the dead things.......Any opinions or suggestions?

I would really contemplate rising them off. In saltwater of course. What test kit/skimmer do you have?

I have an API Reef Master test kit and a couple extra Ammonia kits, one is a dip kit. Then my PS is a AquaC-EV 120. It's a pretty good one.

Just do a small water change. When you syphon some of the water into a bucket use the bucket and water from your tank to lightly scrub and rinse your rock off.

Personally i would leave the rocks and just run some carbon and maybe make your skimmer a little drier.

+ 1 on above adding carbon, but also a blast of the rock using a PH or turkey baster ( does anyone baste any turkeys with these things anymore?)

to remove and then syphon any detrius accumulated - this is good idea anyway irrespective of smell as it is the potential source of future nitrates

What would skimming dryer help? How would I do that? Do you guys think that battery controlled vaccum is good?

I think the best idea sound like putting them in a bucket of original tank water during a water change and lightly scrubing them. But I KNOW there are tons of things living on the rocks so I don't want to kill them

There is a greater number of living things in the rock then on it. A light scrubbing shouldnt hurt too much. Doing it in the bucket will keep all that dead stuff that comes off from staying in the tank. Kinda like bio ball cleaning. I do the same procedure for my bio balls every couple of weeks.

It's like my feet. But, in all seriousness, this is a very, very stinky hobby.
