Toshiba's recent LED demonstration at the Milan Design Week 2010 entitled Lucèste (light of sky) was intended to suggest new possibilities for LED lighting. The large ceiling-mounted LED display created incredible atmospheric effects that interacted with viewers - changing colors and creating clouds by diffusing light through swirling mists. One cannot watch this video and not realize the niche LEDs have over any other in our hobby - the ability to change light intensities and even moods quickly. Lucèste was created by Japanese architect Makoto Tanijiri. If Makoto ever designs an LED light for aquariums, it would be a success too.

    'Lucèste: TOSHIBA LED LIGHTING

At Fouri Salone, Toshiba will show how the precision and expressiveness of LED lighting can shape spaces and create moods, not only environmentally friendly. A ceiling-mounted LED installation will diffuse lighting through a veil of swirling mist to suffuse with a spectrum of growing color. Toshiba commissioned Mr. Makoto Tanijiri, an architect, to create the delicate and beautiful exhibition space using LED lightings. The exhibit will impart a realization of the values of lighting: it will touch people's hearts and suggest new possibilities of LED lighting.

A combination of "luce" (light) and "celèste" (of sky) in Italian evoking the Toshiba's exhibition site image.
