just as any ceph they all have some sort of cephalotoxins. Some species are more dangerous than others. But the ones you will be able to find in the pet trade are pretty harmless. I got tagged by my cuttles and it is much like a bee sting. You are in far greater danger keeping lionfish or any scorpion fish for that matter than you are keeping S. Bandensis.
The nice thing with cuttles in comparison to octos is you have less of a chance of encountering a dfangerous species avaiable to the pet trade, they dont try escaping (even from an open top tank) they are much more active than most octopus (especially when considering a small species of octo) and personally i just think they are cooler looking animals.

yeah I always thought they were pretty cool but the moment the wife hears "poisonous" it pretty much rules out and entire genre of animals

No, not really, only gave Reef Goddess a heads up. I wont be ready for another 3 months or so, remember that I have to cycle it and what not.

Thanks for the pics(THAT GUY) and for an alternative to the ocyopus. I will look into the Cuttlefish. Other than the Houdini act that the octo's are known for, what other reason do you like Cuttles over octo's? Luna

well the only species of octo or cuttle that would be ok in a 30 gallon display tank would be the dwarf species. Dwarf octopus are very secretive and they arent very active. most likely you will never see them unless hunting with a flashlight at night. Where dwarf cuttles are very personable. They will greet you like a dog would when you come home by pressing their faces against the glass and actually beg for food. Keeping more than one dwarf cuttle is possible is a 30 gallon tank where more than one dwarf octo isnt really possible. There are cases where people can keep two dwarf octos in a 30 gallon but they dont interact with each other the same way dwarf cuttles would. Another thing is that octos are much more likely to ink than cuttles so the chance of them killing themselves with a huge ink episode is far less with cuttles over octos. So all in all, my experience with both dwarf octo's and dwarf cuttles is that dwarf cuttles make far better pets.

Could you keep something like a medium sized tang with a dwarf cuttle?
