    Hey all,

I just got a male Lyretail Anthias. I was told it is best to get a male and a female is that true?

    I have a 75 gallon.

Yes. You'd actually be better off with 2 or more females with one male but one female will suffice if your space is limited.

I'm a big fan of anthias. Until recently, I had a pair but the male seems to have disappeared. I'll have to pick up another some day.

Nope, Lyretail are can get rather aggressive towards each other. they are found in the ocean in huge numbers (1000's). Best to keep 1 or keep 1 male and at least 3-4 females. I keep one in my tank (Female for now, they are hermaphroditic) and i think a great addition to any tank. they are very active and mine is always front and center in the aquarium swimming along and showing off her colors. Only thing is, they eat a lot, so for the health of the fish id suggest multiple feedings throughout the day if possible. Great choice nonetheless :)

I kept one male and one female for many years with no issues so I suppose everybody's mileage will vary when it comes to these fish.

And I'm hoping that the article you posted is wrong because I'm planning on adding a male to replace the one that disappeared
