Has anyone had experience with using macro algae in their main display? At the moment I don't have a sump or fuge. Not to say I wouldn't like one, just not in the works atm. However, I was thinking of simply placing some cheatomorpha in my tank, towards the rear corners. They'd get decent light, wouldn't distract from my coral/fish/inverts. Plus they should be a source of nutrient export. Hopefully, I can keep it trimmed back easily (I hear cheato is easy to trim). Ideas?

Yes. It grew very quickly and choked anything and everything out on the rock, including corals, that got in its way. Never again.

Agreed, that stuff belongs in a sump or fuge. You have the added benifit there of longer lighting hours w/o upseting your fish/corals :)

I used to have a 15 gallon tank with all macro algae and damsels. I keep some macro algae in my tanks.

With 5 tangs in the 300 I think it would be lunch.

:) Yes, I believe it would.

Chaeto, to me is not so much an invasive maco algae. The caulerpa on the other hand, I can see getting out of control before you know what's happening.

I was wondering about this type. I guess I should get it out as I have literally watched it growing. It can put on an inch in 12 hours, maybe even less. Would it make a good fuge algea?
