Is it true that Macro Algae does not consume Phosphates and Nitrates, but consumes ammonia therefore reducing the amount of both Po4 and No3??
If so, I never knew phosphates had anything to do with the nitrogen cycle. Nor did I know Macro Algae is feeds on ammonia.
I always thought macro algae fed on Phosphates and nitrates.

I got this info from a local reefer, I just want to make sure my info checks out right before I get back to him..

false, macroalgae is a great nitrate and phosphate remover, i dont believe that they absorb ammonia however. suggest getting some, and putting it in your refugium if you have one. most im sure would agree with me

i use cheato, and some caulerpa.

just make sure you have lighting, and water flows good, look around on here for refugium help

    good luck

ps: thats odd, he's a reefer, but didnt know about nitrate absorption...huh

Oh yea, I've been running a sump/refugium with caulerpa for about three years. This was the first time I ever heard such a thing. I just wanted to make sure I haven't been in "La La Land" this whole time..

Macro algae feeds on the same thing your nuisance algae does, phosphates, nitrate. Have you ever seen some one say lower your ammonia to to get rid of algae? Sounds like that guys is full of it.
