anyone know what this is?? Halimeda? should i leave it in the tank?? it statred out as just a little leaf poking out of some GHA i wasnt sure about it so i let it grow out. the leaves turn white when the lights go out, it isnt growing out of control. it seems like as it gets bigger the GHA on that rock gets smaller. (its also the only place left in the tank with GHA;D). it looks kinda cool, i just dont want my tank to explode with it one day, which i dont think happens with halimeda so long as thats what it is.

Yes it is halimeda. Good for your tank. Don;t let it get too big before you start taking some off and throwing or giving it away.

Your timing was PERFECT on this post. I literally was going to go take a picture of my tank and ask the exact same question. Mine showed up on some LR after my new CuC cleared off the GHA.

    Thanks much.

Halimeda incrassata isn't as available as Halimeda opuntia, however I like it better. Nice snag.

ha, thats funny. its kinda strange i got the tank established. it was at least a couple years old. i have kinda "nursed" it back to health over the last 8 months or so. Its strange that it was able to stay alive a dormant for so long, and now that the water quality and light are good it sprouted up

Good question, let it double in size from it's size now then remove half to be safe. If it removes too much nitrate and phosphate from your system it will reproduce and take up all the oxygen in your tank. If you see the leaves go white with little green balls on it remove all of the halimeda immediately. Once it starts it doesn't stop.
