HI I have a 40 gallon reef tank with corals (sps, lps mostly trumpets and a branching tourch coral, an softies) but Xenia was taking over but I am slowly overcoming, but I have macro algae that grows on my trumpets like a head FULL of hair and every week I have to pull it off. It also grows on my (folicious coral) not sure of a name it is brown, flat and sps it grows like a little platform. anyways it starts to grow on that too and my rock, there it a real green type that also grows on my rock but I dont midn it cause its slow and looks pretty but this stuff is a viney dark green/brown with really feathery leaves. I want to stop it w/out having to stick my arm in there every other day. My parameters are good all the corals are doing great and growing like crazy I use a phosphate remover and empty my skimmer maybe bi-weekly it is skimming alot of stuff to mostly watery and brown with thick junk in the neck of the cup. Help me advanced reefers! Thanks

I am far from an expect, but I have certainly had algal issues in the past.

Does it look like green hair algae?

    What are your parameters specifically?

No its not hair, I know hair algae, I had a huge bloom about 8 months ago, no this is brown macro with feathery leaves on it. it grows on a vine. IDK parameters I go by looks everything is fine just this algae the other macro grows so slow but this is fast growning the mainly grows on my back wall and on corals (trumpet stalks mostly) but there is some on my rock. i cant find anything online about how to get rid of it. It would be good sump material but not in the tank please.

First, I would suggest taking a picture and posting it here for identification.

It's hard to offer suggestions without knowing what your parameters are.

Secondly, could you at least test for:

    1)Nitrates
    2)Phosphates

These are molecules that are invisible to the naked eye; "looks" is not an accurate way of judging water quality. There is probably a nutrient fueling your algal breakout and it is most likely one or both of the above molecules.

Lastly, how long is your light cycle?

P.S. What was the "hair" you were referring to in your initial post.

yeah thats calurpa. You need to pull it out by the 'vine' as you say. It take alot of work but dont delay!
