well I made some PH buffer last night..

I took some arm & hammer baking soda and baked it for 1 hour at 400 degrees.. let it cool.. added 1 teaspoon to my 55g freshwater tank it was at ph=6.4 and today its at perfect ph=7.0.. and nothing died. :)

    this stuff is strong..

and for my reef tank.. I was at 8.0ph but after opening the windows and aiming my Powerheads towards the surface of the water.. towards the end of my light cycle it was at 8.3 :) so no buffer needed..

I did mix the "baked" baking soda (1 part) with baking soda (6 part) together so now when I need to dose ph/dkh up I have a nice mix ready..

and it only cost 1 dollar to make. :)

PS: just make sure you only add a little at a time, better to be safe then overdose..

when you baked the baking soda, it changes it chemically. I believe once its baked it like soda ash = sodium carbonate" but not 100% on that its been a while since researching this.

when reading the ingredints on dkh/super buffer: contains carbonate, bicarbonate and borate salts.

It is mostly baking soda with some "baked" baking soda/ Soda Ash/Washing Soda/ and a tad of borate

becareful and dose a little and test.
