So I finally plumbed in my Mag 5. It is brand new and is making quite the racket. Is there a break in time associated with these. I was expecting it to be quieter, not silent but definitely quieter. I had only the sump filled so maybe that plays into it being so loud and it is also hard plumbed PVC. Any advice would be wonderful!

My mag 9 is very quiet as well. Sometimes gets pushed up against the side of the sump and then it vibrates and makes a lot of noise. So try moving it a little away from the side wall. Also if its not primed completely it will make more noise as well. Cover the intake briefly with your finger and see if that clears the air that may be stuck inside. If you rule out those two things then you could try putting something underneath the pump to stop the vibration. Aside from that maybe its defective?

+1 90 PERCENT OF THE TIME VIBRATION IS THE CAUSE OF NOISE ESPECIALLY WHEN USING HARD PLUMBING.Sorry for the caps.Try some old suction cups they make great feet for pumps.I usually just use a razor blade and cut the round nub off the back so they lay flat and sometimes silicone them to the bottom of the pump.

Yup...I use 100% silicone pot holders under my hard plumbed pumps. Dead silent!

It should definately be quiet, you can not even hear mine when it is on...it kind of makes a vibrating noise when you first power it on, but that lasts for 1-2 seconds only.
