So I am going to add a Sump to my tank, the distance from the pump to my tank is 50 inches (4.1 ft). Should I buy the Mag 5 or keep my MaxiJet 1200?

    Thanks!

How much flow do you want?
The mj1200 will not be that powerfull at 4 foot head.

Well I'm guessing the MJ1200 is running at maybe 250 gph at the moment so id like to at least have that when I add my sump. I can alway add a ball valve and turn it down if I buy a oversized pump or am not pleased with the flow.

At 4 ft of head pressure a mag 5 is only going to push about 375 gph.How much are you looking for?

Well its in a biocube so 375 would be okay. But now after reading reviews the Mag 5 can get pretty warm... id like to be around 300-350 GPH at head.

Danner's Mag drive pumps are really nice. Im using a Mag18 and my buddy has used a Mag9 on his 90 gallon reef for 3 years without any problems. Very reliable. Id go with the Mag5.

I'd go with a Mag. I have several Mags, one lasted 8 years in my outdoor fish pond.

Quiet, reliable, small. Mag Drives are great, I use 'em bu they're loud and get hot. Which in a biocube, you don't want an extra heater.
