    That's what I did with a Mag 7. Great flow and no dead spots in the tank. Even with powerheads off.

    i would up it to a 1" but i already bought the union and check valve in 3/4...it'll be a pain in my .. to return

    1. Don't instiall a check valve on your return line - no need for it. A properly plumbed aquarium wil only have a small amount of water drain into the sump when pump is turned off. just allow that much soace in your sump when planning.

    2. I am going to use the 1/2" union to the return pump. Then add the adapter for 3/4" (or 3/4" - 1" in your case) afterward. If you ever sell, the next person can choose to or not to increase the plumbing size.

    true but no check valve? what if water flows back down? siphon break?

    I do though on my 90gal have a clear union check valve. I have 11' of plumbing on my return, plus my piping in my 90 are underwater to avoid splashing.

    I clean it whenever I service my impeller on my pump or unless it needs it sooner.
