Im building a 40G reef tank, and plan on buying a Mag 9.5 along with a SCWD for circulation, instead of buying in-tank circulating pumps. At the end of each return, there will be an Ista Vortex Flow Accelerator. Will this setup be enough to keep LPS and SPS corals?

Watch out! The 9.5 is a strong pump. the Mag 7 would be more appropriate.

Is the 9.5 acting as a return pump as well? It should be fine for LPS, but SPS like erratic, random high flow. If this is your only form of circulation, I'd say no, it will not work for SPS alone.

    To compare:
I have a 40B tank, with a Mag 7 return (500GPH or so after head), 2 Vortech MP10W ES Pumps (Reef Crest Mode), and a Koralia Nano 425 (pulsing) circulating my SPS dominant tank.

I've got a seahorse tank(40 gal) with just a mag 5 as the return/circulation. Monti's and LPS (and most of my softies) do fine with with it, although I'm sure they'd do better with more flow. It isn't ideal, and I have a lot of dead spots, but the coral and SH's seem happy with it.

I'll be using the SCWD for random high flow, as well as the flow accelerators
