I know you are asking about a mag pump, but you may want to take a look at the Sicce Syncra Brand of pumps. Yes they are a little more expensive, but with the proper maintenance done on my Sicce Syncra 5, its been running my 125g reef for a little over three years now. They are water cooled and very quiet.

I know they might not have the longevity of the better name pumps but the worst thing that happens if it fails is I buy a new one. From what I've researched about the mags, they are reliable but they are noisy and they heat up the water noticeably. I have read many good reviews about the Jaebo. I'm not saying it's for everyone and you need to know you're buying a Chinese pump. All that being said I would not have bought one if I had the money for an Iwaki, Sicce or Eheim.

BTW, not trying to thread jack just give my opinion on why I didn't go with a mag drive which I almost did.

No the worst thing that could happen is you or your animals get shocked/killed.I don't know about the rest of you but using a questionable piece of equipment in a tank full of sw that i regularly have my hand in is scary. I suggest a ground probe.

Another reason to be running a ground probe in your tank and sump/refugium. Get rid of that stray voltage.

I'm running an iwaki pump and that thing is loud but powerful. My mag 12 doesn't make a sound. As with anything if you buy quality the first time you'll be happier in the long run. I got 2 mag 12 pumps new in the box for 100 dollars so I went with mag. ;)

wow, a lot of good advice here. I have never heard of a ground probe before. I am sure I can figure out what it does. I will just have to see if I need on for my application, and how to install one.

I won't run a tank without a ground probe in my tank and sump. Stray current will almost always show up somewhere, sometime.

Testing your tank with a volt meter occasionally is a good idea. You want to eliminate the voltage not just ground it.;)
