I know I have had a lot of questions about this area, but one more. I have looking at either a mag 7 return on my sump or a rio 2100. Anybody have any benefits for one over the other? (besides price)

A number of years ago, RIO's were responsible for a lot of bad things (stray voltage, fires). However, Taam has fixed those issues.

Danner has done absolutely nothing to fix their crappy impellers so I would go with the RIO.

All I can say about Rio's is they are loud (I think) - I just had one die randomly and I'm in the process of trying to figure out what brand to replace it with.

If you can use a external pump I would get a Little Giant. They are quiet and use very little power for the gph they put out.

I have exp. with both pumps and I will tell you that I would buy the Magdrive(MD) any time over the Rio. MD's last longer than Rio's, perform better even if they are dirty, more powerful, come threaded on the input and the output and are quiet. Luna

I used my 2100 Rio for 2 years w/o ever cleaning it about 6 years ago and I cleaned it and reused it when I recently set up my DT again. Been going strong for a few months now (haven't cleaned it in these few months either) and I've got to say that I'm extremely happy with it. I don't think it'sw noisy at all either. I even bought another 2100 recently when I set up my frag tank.

I have a MD7 for my AquaC-180 and a Rio 3500 for a return and they both work well. I also have a Rio2100 that I used as a secondary return too. I haven't had any problems with stray voltages. The Mag does get loud if it's not sitting firmly in my sump though.
