I use a Mag-float. I clean the top 90% first then I try to keep it as close to the sand bed and go slow to minimize trapping sand in it and scratching the glass. I still have a few light scratchs in the glass thou.

I also do the same. I did see a DIY on here a while back that I am using with the mag-float. It is a Dobie pad with the sponge on the inside removed. The white mesh on the outside is then put around the mag-float. Works really well, and I wish I could remeber who that was that came up with it! ;)

Well I guess its too late.... Ive already have scratched glass:cry:..... MAG-FLOAT sucks for sand ...... I guess i trusted the brand because I used it with freshwater before with gravel with no problems, but I was really wrong with the sand and saltwater... it might work good with crushed coral but not sand

I had the same issue with my Mag Float and sand. I just resorted to the trust Petco Algae scraper. It's aggravating to have to get my hands wet, but at least I'm not scratching my glass.

I went to a hardware store bought a paint scraper you attach a razor blade to. I use that and have a 100 pack of blades. change the blade every week or so.

    I have never looked back.
