Is a Mag-Float just a sponge on a magnet or is it something that really get's the built up algae off of the glass?

they are alot more abrasive than a sponge, almost like the hook side of velcro, they get most stuff off with a little elbow grease not that great on coralline though

cool then it is worth paying for. I was wondering because if it were just a sponge like deal I can do that by hand. I just want to get out of putting my hand in the tank so much. Thank you.....

Great piece of kit, as stated coraline and more stubborn algae may need something else with a bit of elbow grease, to shift it, but for the daily build up of glass algae, its very good, and if the one side in the water comes off it will float to the top, instead of sinking and disappearing being rockwork, every good reefer will have one...

Be very careful not to let it get anywhere near the substrate. It will pick up tiny particles and scratch your glass very badly, very fast.

    Ask me how I know!

OK, how do you know? :p That sucks dude. :-/

I can't imagine not having one either. So helpful. I don't use it on the bottom inch of glass for above reason (and the crabs will get that space anyway).

There are different ones for glass and acrylic, make sure you get the right one.

Also make sure you wash the outside of the tank with ro/di water first. If you have a salt creep on the outside it will get stuck in the mag float and can also scratch the glass.
