Just an update. I just tested a new batch of salt water (Coralife) and got a reading of 3000! I guess that's the problem since the water I'm starting with has a ppm of only 4.  So now I ask do I change brands? Is a mag level of 3000 too high? I also tested the calcium and that's at 700.

JohnO, SG is 1.023 for both.
Hottie, lots of pink and red algae.
Bird lady, we'll stick to this one :)

You know, I'm really afraid to do anything. They say if something isn't broken, don't fix it. Everything in my tank is doing awesome. My open brain is beautiful and has grown almost twice it's size in less than 3 months!

well if it's not hurting your aquarium or your animals then i guess it's not something to worry about. I would imagine u have a lot of coralline because of your way high cal.

Yeah, it's great. The tank is really looking good. Very soon after I put a pale piece of live rock in it turns awesome shades of pinks and reds. The only reason I was worried, and what started this whole thing, was my problem of low alk. I guess I'll just dose my alk every once in a while. I suppose I won't need my bottles of calcium and magnesium for a while.

thats good...i was thinking after reading these posts. that i might change to coralife salt mix when it's time. I have to keep adding cal every day to keep mine up to 450. I might change to it. It would be easier and i would have awsome coralline algae growth.
