Is it possible to have a magnesium level of 1600? I just tested it out and go 1600 using the red sea test kit. My ca is 400, still have to test my alk. I have a red sea test kit for alk it test it in milli equivalents per liter, is this ok?

    1250 to 1350

Have you been adding anything to the water? You didn't put the water in your tank that the new corals came in?

Everything uses mag its like calcium your not that high, remember most kits are pretty off when measuring test I ve read that they can be off by 20%,
I have been checking mine on a rather complicated machine and its very stable once up.

Never add anything to your tank unless you have tested it and believe it's low. You need to watch LFS because they make a living selling things so some are not worried about your tanks as much as making a sell.
As large as you tank is you need to really think about a Ca reactor so that you are not dealing with adding chemicals to your water to get things right. I add a little Mg maybe every two weeks and some Stronium about once a week and that is it. The reactor takes care of the rest. They take a while to dial in and get set up but once they are done it's a "set it and forget it" piece of equipment, that is until the owner changes the load in the tank. ;)

As far as magnesium test kits i trust no company other than Salifert, they make very accurate Mg test kits and are easy to read and use...a little costly at 35 dollars for a 50 tests but to me worth it. 1350-1500 is the recommended levels, a water change with Instant ocean salt will definately bring your Mg levels down as IO salt tests out at 1050 in the Mg department, IO reef crystals tests out higher at 1300ppm in Mg.
