Well, if you're constantly dosing, a Ca level of 550 with Mg at 550 is possible, but it wouldn't be sustainable.

OK I re-tested my cal. with API test kit I know cheap but that is the only thing available here where I live and its results was 440

I only was dosing c-balance mainly last week I have not added any since Mon.

Assuming you don't have a large Ca load (lots of SPS and/or clams), then that is more evidence of a low Mg level.

    550 could be right...

But I'm definitely with Steve on this; I'd want to make darn sure I was certain of 550 before I took corrective action.

    Thanks Hunter
agreed, especially seeing the number is so far from accepted norms of 1280 - 1350
an increase of 700 plus PPM Magnesium (done over 7 days) could drive the parameter well over the top if that level is due to a problem test kit

do you not have any reef keepers you know in same area as you
as getting a fellow hobbyist to verify your test kit would be an option
you may not need to buy a new kit, you just need a method to checking the one you have

idea , mix a gallon of new salt mix and then do a test
tell us what brand the salt is and then we can find out an approx mag level for that brand for you

if the kit gives an accurate reading on fresh salt mix, then you will know kit is not the issue and your mag level is
if the kit gives a very low reading on freshly made saltwater
then you will know the kit is the problem
