Getting used to it is a PITA and the instructions are written by some Italian with barely any English skill.

But...The color change is so crisp and definite. The test is super easy once you get it figured out too.

I started using Elos when BRS was out of stock on Salifert once.

Don't get Red Sea, it's a huge pain & you're never sure what you end up with.

Supposedly they're better, but based on a similar experience I had on the old test kits, I'm not willing to spend my money to find out.

Not sure what constitutes "new"...the round ones?
If so, have no experience with those. I just know the one we have takes forever with a bunch of steps and there's no way in the world you can NOT have air in the syringe, then if you look away for too long, the color changes BACK to before you looked away, then you have no idea if it changed or not LOL.

I'm not sure what you mean by air in the syringe but the tropic Marin kit I have you put tips on syringes and it tells you to measure by the plunger not by the fluid cuz there is an unavoidable air gap between them.

The red sea kit includes that "air" gap in the measurment as you can't avoid the little bit of air in the syringe,i would assume(and thats nothing more than an assumption) that tropic marine does also.

I have the "new" red sea kit and it's not too bad, kinda of a pita though. To many steps.

Funny, my instructions say to avoid air in the syringe at all costs. I always just allowed for it because it was impossible LOL.

I've only used salifert but had no problems following it or getting a reading.
still need to go throught the instructions each time I use it, but it gets a result.
