hi all, i have a 120g/33l sump that finished cycling about 2 weeks ago. i used ro/di and crystal reef to start the tank. 70lbs live rock, 75lbs base rock, 80lbs sand. right now i have a clown, y. tang, cleaner wrasse, 3 mex snails, 3 astrea snails. just put in a bunch of chaeto in a 15gallon fuge with reverse photo period and a bubble magus bm-150 yesterday. dont have the foam head real high yet as its still being broken in.

    temp- 80f
salinity- 1.023(hydrometer, added saltwater for top off as of last night till i get it to 1.026, actually 1.024 this morning, refractometer ordered)
    ph- 8.2 api test(lfs confirmed)
    ammo- 0 api test(lfs confirmed)
    nitrite- 0 api test(lfs confirmed)
    nitrate- 0 api test(lfs confirmed)
ca- 380 api test(will go to lfs tonite to confirm)
dkh- 9 api test(will go to lfs tonite to confirm)
mg- 390 salifert test(will go to lfs tonite to confirm)

i am going to order the brs 2 part right now. im gonna retest when i get my salinity up to 1.026, ive read that could affect the mg and vice versa. im hoping i tested the mg wrong, that reading is really low. the test isnt expired and wont till 2012, i just bought it also. what could cause the mg to be so off?? the salt?? am i on the right track?? get the salinity up than get the mg levels where theyre supposed to be, than get the ca and dkh right?? could the mg be that low with the salinity just a few points low?? thanks in advanced!!

have you tried duing a water change and see if it raises a bit.if your levels are really that low it would take awhile with water changes alone you could also use epsom salt to raise your levels (do a water change first).if you go the epsom salt way raise the levels slowly.

Try to get it up to 1300ppm. You can add Epsom salts. Use the calculator from this site. You can increase by 100ppm per day safely.
