my 54g corner tank has 2 painted sides... the tank is fresh and recently setup and this is my first tank without rock touching the glass

i look forward to keeping it clean, and hope i can use a magnet... but without damaging the outside glass.

any pointers? if i keep the outside one just off the glass can i clean the inside without damaging the paint? anyone try this? or does everyone clean from the inside?

I don't clean the back sides of my tanks (so in your case the corner sides). If you used a Magfloat, it will definitely scratch the paint over time as you think. You can use other cleaner tools that just use a blade with a long handle if you do want to clean it though. Only use the Magfloat on the front panel.

ive used the magfloat on the back glass which is painted on the outside and i havent seen any paint chip or get damaged at all.
but i also dont do that all the time. its alot easier to just take the inside part of the magfloat and manually move it around on the back wall inside the tank. My tank is shallow though so that makes it a bit easier.
