OK, So I am still working on converting over to a Sump / Refugium setup and replace my HOB equipment.

    I have a few questions.

1.) When I swap over there must be some biological filtration in my current equipment and when I switch over shall I expect my filtration to crash and have a Am, N2, N3 spike ?

2.) When maintaining a display only tank, one cleans and changes water in it directly. In a sump setup, does the maintenance routine change ? or will I still be doing water changes from the display tank ? I ask for a couple resones, one is that I keep my rock height at the 50% mark so when I do large water changes everything remains underwater. If it is the later, well I will only have a 10gallon sump with about 60% fill with water so thats not much of a water change. So whats the secret ?

I often wonder how those of you with high rock formations with coral and stuff attach to it, do water changes.

    \Cheers

I have a valve on my return pump (in the sump) that will put the water straight back into the sump. So, when I do a water change, I can either replace however much water I want out of display, or the sump. When the water change is complete I open the valve and the system will start running as per normal. You will have the same effect just by turning off your return pump. Hope that makes sense?!
