I just had this pop up in a coral colony recently added to my tank. It must have been very well hidden because I didn't notice it until today. Is it a Majano?

I hope the picture is clear enough.

If so, the zoa colony is on what looks to be several pieces of dead coral. I could easily split the colony to remove the piece that the Majano is on, and remove it without losing any zoas I think. Would this be the best option, or should I try something else?

Yeah a majano. You can use Joe's Juice or Aiptasia-X if you don't want to split the colony. Injecting boiling water and lemon juice also work. Some use kalk paste also.

    Your suspicion is correct.
I do hope no one chimes in saying its a small bta because it has bubble tips. Majono have that feature as well.

    Thanks!

One more question. When they are disturbed, can they shrink to a very small size like Aiptasia can? I decided to split the colony, and when I did I lost sight of it. I saw what I think was it on a very small piece of dead coral that came off. It was maybe 1/10 the size of the one in the pic. Can they shrink that much when bothered?

I inspected the rest of the pieces pretty carefully, and couldn't see any other signs of it. I did find a hitchhiker crab that I hadn't noticed before though. LOL I may post pics of it later if my searching turns up nothing, and I can coax it out for a picture.

Yeah, I didn't notice that until I posed the pic! I may just toss that half of the coral entirely as there are virtually no zoas on it at all.

Here's a different view of what was above the majano in the first pic. Looks to be three of them. Baby majano's? The coral in the penalty box until I have a good resolution. ;-)
