I have a major issue with a royal gramma. I added him several weeks ago to my 37 gallon tank. He wasn't picked on at all at the beginning so I thought it would be smooth sailing.

Now he is a total mess and I don't know what to do. I think it's a bacterial issue, and someone is attacking him. This is what he looks like. Here are my options, please help!

His eye is protruding and gray, and I think he's blind in one eye.
He has white all over his head.
    His fins are practically gone.
He spends a lot of time at the top of the water on his side, flopping around.
    He still eats A LOT.

I've been putting Melafix in the tank, but it isn't working yet. And I think he is also being attacked, though I'm not sure, I've never seen it happen.

Should I continue with the Melafix?
Should I make a temporary QT?
Do you think this is contagious? None of the other fish show any signs of disease. If it isn't contagious, should I put him into my 90 gallon where he won't be picked on?

    Help! THANKS!

Put him in a QT if it makes you feel better or if you think he has a chance. If you think he's a lost cause put him out of his misery.

Sorry about your fish, one of my favorites too!

Oh man! That sure does sound like a mess! If you can make a DT i think that would be your best bet. It would keep him away from anyone that is picking on him and it would treat him if it was a bacterial infection. The Melefix usually takes 1-2 weeks if thats how long you have been treating for.

I just started treating two nights ago - this would be day 3. I'm concerned he is being attacked, though I've never actually seen it. But how he hangs out at the top of the water, it makes me think he is being attacked.

Kacy, how long ago did he develop the eye and fin issues.
And are the fins torn like from being bitten off or are they frayed similar to a bacterial/fungal infection eating them

for once KC I'm glad there's no pics in this thread, poor Gramma, sounds really messed up. What else is in the tank, have you seen anyone chasing it? Best of luck getting it back to health I say QT would be good too def!

Hey guys. Last night I thought for sure the gramma was a done deal. It was like seizuring in a clump of hair algae on the back of the tank. Horrifying, right?!

This morning I come down and he's out swimming around. This fish has such an incredible will to live! That's why I just can't euthanize.

I've never seen it be attacked, but the reason I thought maybe it was being attacked is because of his tail fin. It is practically all gone. Like clean down to the start of the fish body. That to me seems like it's being bitten, right? Cuz it isn't frayed. Though I'm pretty sure all the white mess and eye issue is bacterial, right?

    UGH! Stressing me out!

P.S. I did not treat with Melafix last night as I thought for sure the fish would die over night. Maybe the Melafix was making him act worse? who knows, with this fish!!

Mine did the same thing and would get better then worst. I was unsure what it was. It also looked like mine was attacked. Mine finally died but hopefully your will pull through.
