only thing needed to add to water of course is the salt needed to bring the salinity up tp your tank needs.. Most if not all Powderd salt mixes has all the needed minerals for your tank..

in time as your tank matures of course you can add trace elements as your coral's will deplete them along with calcium.

I am sure theres other helpful hints out there..

    Best of luck..

by "make up" you are referring to "top off"?

No, you do not need to add anything and you absolutely do not want to add salt.

I do leverage my ATO when I have to dose Mg. I just dump whatever Mg needed into reservoir and let it go in the tank at that rate. Given size of my reservoir, generally means it takes me a week to dose however much Mg is in there. So I can easily raise it a few hundred points if needed "all at once" as it were.

Previous poster mentioned trace elements. If you can't measure it, you don't dose it.

For top off water, you are just replacing the H2O that has evaporated. All minerals/ salts are left in the water that remains in the tank, as they do not evaporate at room temperature.

Yes i understand that the salt does not need to be replaced when topping off evaporated water, I just wondered if that water after being so completely stripped of everything during the reverse osmosis filtering might be so clean that some minerals and such might be needed to re-establish the healthy composition water normally has. I figured there was probably an additive that might do this and an alrready esablished formula. 5 gallons of ro/di water need "X" number of capfulls of "Y". I lose about a gallon a day. does anyone have some DIY auto top off system plans out here?
