Well I was wondering how I would go about putting 2 tanks on the same system.
I have a 45 long and 46 bow. One of my problems is that my 45 long is going throw a never ending war with hair alge. Do I just cook the tank and start that one from scratch when hooked up to the dp tank.
I well be building a new stand for both of the tanks to fit on with a sump refuge and a octo 110 skimmer and a sea clone just for sh!+s and giggles. any help encouragement to not be a _____ and just do it would be helpful thank 3reef u r the best

What lighting do you have over both tanks? Just interested. Having both tanks connected will mean a much more stable system. What CUC do you have in the tank with hair algae?

Sounds very cool. Don't see why you can do it... Certainly give a cool effect if they are side by side, since one is a bowfront.

I have 2 tanks connected together which then feed into a sump. My DT looks like your first picture, mostly green coralline, interested to hear what lighting your using in that tank because it looks completely different to the lighting in the other tank.

i would nuke the problem tank... as you are probably aware, any problem one tank has, they will both share...

so if you were to just connect them now via sump, as is, the clean tank would inherit the algae problem of the other...

but the easiest way to connect two tanks is via sump. just plumb them both, independently, into the sump. each would still have their own overflow and return from the sump.

homegrown corals has a whole thread to this. He has to 55's hooked up together. neat setup.

(personally, I would sell both tanks and get a bigger one, but that's just me)

Find the source of the algae. Your PO4 / NO3 / both are probably high. Algae will be fed by nutrients of some sort. Connecting the two tanks will spill the problem into the other tank. Find the source, remedy it, and that will stop the algae.

Run some GFO / Phosguard in a reactor or bag in a high flow area to help with the PO4. Use RO/DI water. What do you currently show for your nitrates?
