Fun thing to do while tank cycling. Lot's of time to learn about fish and their needs/habits...

Take a look at "sticky's" in Tropical Reef Forum

I have a pair of yellow tail damsels in my tank. Trick, I think, is to add them while juveniles and along with other new fish. --- please let your tank cycle as long as you can before adding big bioload.

To be honest I am doing what the local expert told me to do . Put cured live rock into tank water from his shop got temp and salinity to right level and ON HIS ADVICE put a couple of hermits and a couple of fish in after 3 days. I told him I was worried about moving too quickly but he assured me that all would be fine and that hundreds of his customers had followed his advice and all was fine. My next door neighbour has a 10g tank he set up one day and added two clowns the next ....no skimmer and basically a light bulb over the tank ...that was 2 years ago and guess what....all doing very well !!!

As much as I hate to argue with your lfs, the last thing I would do to any new tank is add three fish. One small fish yes, but not a couple. What kind of fish did you add per their advice?
