This guy is the one who decoded the whole human genome in 9 months. The government said his idea to produce bacteria completely from scratch was too farfetched and impossible. Now they are trying to give him millions since he proved them wrong.
There really isnt an end to what you can make with these bacteria... you can make oil/fuel, human tissue, bacteria that turn around the effects of the greenhouse effect, deadly bacteria, bacteria that target and kill viruses/other bacteria... the possibilities are almost endless! MAJOR leap for the well-being of humans.

Oh I remember this. I had to do a reflection on that for school.

 

For some reason it scares the bejeezus out of me. Yes I do see all the benefits to man kind if it remains within the right hands and with the right intent. Time will tell I guess. Interesting stuff non the less.

Or, it can be in the right hands, and a new organism could have a gigantic unintended consequence. User error and/or ignorance is the much more likely scenario than someone using it with the intent to do harm.
