If you have the means build stands and canopies in your spare time. Sell them on every Craigslist within reasonable driving distance at a profit. Throw in a brand new tank you picked up at PetCo's $1/gallon sale for just under what it's worth normally and the profit explodes. If you have even a little skill it won't take long for word of mouth (best advertising there is) to get around and you'll have strangers calling you wanting a set up of their own.
Here's my latest. It's a "word of mouth" sale and was ordered unfinished. I'm using the profit from it to buy a new joiner and router w/table so I can begin building acrylic corner and Bean over flows. I figure Reef Ready customs will add another $100-$150 on to the price tag.

looks good I thought about doing the same thing after i built my own tank. Your canopy makes the tank look a little small in the pic

    Great work Mike.

Leighton the design looks to be for metal halide lighting.

You're exactly right John. They are putting two 175W pendants in the canopy. It's vented top and quarter back.

Thanks Steve. It's easier work than trying to profit from coral LOL.

Honestly I don't like the look either but it's what they want because they'll be using halides. The stand is built for a 30B to be slid in through the back so it's actually oversized too.

Hey bud, what would you try to do to get a 55 reef tank onto a new stand? I need to build a new stand but how would you get the tank to it with minimal aggitation to the inhabitants.
