What kind of sand is this? How did you rinse the sand? I would suspect that the sand wasn't rinsed well or at all. When disturbing the fine particulate gets stired up. This may eventualy stop happening if the filter removes the particulate. Does your water get cloudy?

Yep. I bought that Carib-Sea reef special grade and some fine sugar type sand and rinsed it over and over about 10 times and got much of the stuff that clouds the water out b4 I installed it in my tank. After a while the really fine stuff will kindof sink down an inch or so and it wont be nearly as bad.

the sugar sand has to be the worstI have used it several times, each time I had to wash it a quart at a time in a five gallon bucket while running a hose into it, for a large tank it could take all day
