I am going to Leds. But here is my dilemma. I am only do zoas palys and lps. So how many watts should I go with on Leds. I am thinking 90 3 watts Leds it will put me around 4.5 watts per gallon. It is a 56 gallon tank. Input please lots of it.

Waaaaay too many. A 36 kit would allow SPS with that tank. If you ever plan on SPS, go with that...dimmable. Talk to RapidLED about setting you up.

the watts per gallon rule doesnt apply.
90 3w leds over your tank will be crazy.
i agree 36 should be more than plenty.

Some of my local reefers are saying I should atleast go with 60. Is that still to much.

Yup, too much. Watts per gallon doesnt mean anything, especially when using it with LEDs.

Lets put it this way. I am setting up an SPS dominant growout tank. I will be using 40 LEDs to light a 40 Breeder (36x18x16). Do your local reefers have a DIY fixture? As said above, the watts/gallon rule does not apply. Optics will get your spread/focus you want with less LEDs. Go dimmable!
