    Hi All,

I am new and exploring while planning. I am thinking about a 200g main tank and been reading about RO/DI filters. I have a question about effeciency. How many gallons would I need to filter to make 200 gallons of RO/DI water ready for filling the tank?

Secondly, how long would it take to make 200 gallons?

Finally, what RO/DI filter brand and size would you recommend so that I get good efficiency, abiltiy to make enough water and affordable part replacements ::)

All filters are similar, more or less stages, you buy a 50, 100, 150 gallon per day.

How efficient would depend n how you set it up, you dictate the rejection rate.

Most definitely worth doing from day 1.

Lets see a spectra pure 90gpd is usually recomended to have a 3:1 waste ratio.
Which means it would take 266 gallons to make 200 gallons.
Then if its making 90 gpd it would take you 53 hrs to fill your tank (roughly)
Thats using the same ro di I use. Other may be different.

Spectrapure like most other vendors recommends a 4:1 waste ratio unless you have softened water and below average TDS.
At 4:1 you would waste 800 gallons to make 200 gallons, this is true with mist RO or RO/DI systems with many being much worse since they use fixed, non adjustable flow restrictors which are usually higher than 4:1. The Spectrapure system will make 90 GPD of treated RO/DI provided your water pressure is 60 psi and your water temperature is 77 degrees F which is not usually the case so make be higher or lower than 90 GPD.

Spectrapure has been in the RO/DI business for over 28 years in the same AZ city using only the best quality components and has earned their #1 reputation time and again. All RO/DI systems are not similar or the same, far from it in fact. Many are built ovverseas using non ANSI/NSF, UL or UPC approved components and filters and while they may look the same they are nowhere near the same and often end up failing quickly. The $130 you spend on a Spectrapure is money well spent when you consider you will pay 50 cents or more per gallon at the LFS or vending machine for comparable water and you can make your own RO/DI water for about 5 cents per gallon on average including the water and sewer rates for both the treated and waste, replacement filters and DI resin. Much cheaper and takes up much less of your valuable time and gasoline getting all the water home from the store.
