Well I'm making my first batch of water this weekend and I had a quick question. I am getting a 50 gallon rain barrel to mix my salt with and I was wondering if its okay for salt water to sit for a week to week and half. I usually do a water change every week, due to heavy feeding. I usually do 20 gallons but if I make 40 gallons up, will the other 20 gallons stay good for that week or so?

It should be ok sealed from light and air. I'd run a powerhead in it for a few hours before using it. Be sure and retest/recheck before using also.

i would slap a heater in there with steady flow in a dark place preferably in a garage or somewhere not exposed to the elements

Not sure if you guys know it but, they sell pre-mixed salt water at the chain stores. In a box, in a bag, with a lid. Flow and a heater will cause evaporation. What oxygen is going to saturate the water in a sealed container?
