Hmmmm, thats not right. About 2 years ago, I contacted PETA and the ASPCA about reporting a big case of animal (fish and shark) abuse at an LFS in california, but the only answer I could get from anyone after about a weeks worth of on and off research was pretty lame. They told me that fish don't fall under the category of animal abuse, so the LFS couldn't be ticketed, prosecuted, etc.

    Either way, what a weirdo.

I feel kind of bad about my response to this. I guess this is a cynical moment for me.

1st) It's just a betta. You can find them dirt cheap at any "pet" store in the U.S. They don't do anything except float in a jar/bowl.

2nd) I've impaled all sorts of fish in my lifetime. I'm a pretty avid fisherman with hooks and lures. But then I also love spear fishing. Which is what that guy did, times ten. The only thing different from that betta and fish I've speared is: he didn't eat the betta, and I've never speared a fish named DeLorean.

    I'm such a mean person :p

Actually given the room to swim, bettas can be interesting to watch, they do make use of space- tiny bowls are cruel. Not very fast, but they do move around. They make bubble nests as well.

The guy obviously has some issues to work out. Spearing fish to eat them, and spearing fish and leaving a knife through it are completely different issues.

i used to have a betta in a 5 gall hex and he was very active. It's so sad how people keep them in such small bowls.

I remember my English teacher had one in one of those clear old fashioned glass jugs. It was probably 3 or more liters. He had to take the fish out of the room because we kept staring at it...:D

We heard on the radio here in VA the other night that some lady went nuts, stole her husbands goldfish, fried them up and ate them. Apparently the police said it was property that belonged to both of them since they were married at the time so it would have to be settled in civil court. Thought it was cruel but kind of funny.
