haven't seen any bottled pods that reproduce in your tank either so if you go that route you have to keep buying them

If you come across it or remember it, please shoot me an email. Would love to know in the event I need to jump start my population.

I don't know if they reproduce while in the bottle, but as any other creature once it's in a bigger, richer environment.... it is time for baby making!
I can't remember the brand either, but i've seen both, a little bottle and a pouch looking container. I've even seen the company that makes Phytofeast or arctipods has a bottle the same size as phytofeast with live tiger pods. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the company!

I've seen them claim they reproduce but never seen it happen. Had an interesting conversation with the Tigger Pods folks that went something like me asking if they reproduced and them saying yes. I said I tried them before and it didn't happen. They asked whether I was using their food. Seemed pricey to get the tigger pods and the food so I bailed on it.

LOL! Sounds like what I would do! They're $25+ over here, plus any food they require would be another $20 or so.. I just leave my sump alone and have tons of pods. They cycle between amphipods and the regular copepods but never both of them happily coexisting.

That's where I get mine. Really good pods. I buy the value pack

and they definitely reproduced in my tank. As long as they have enough to feed on, they will.

I have a very similar setup to you. How old is your tank? I was weary of adding a mandarin also especially because Im sure my Hawk eats his fair share of pods (Hes just big boned). Anyways about 6 months ago I bit the bullet and am happy to say the Mandarin is alive and well! I would add though that my tank was a year and a half old when I added this fish and although I never see them in the DT my fuge is full of pods. If you do decide to take the plungeyou will be rewarded with a beautiful and unique addition to your tank.
