If you don't do a species only tank for the harlequins, they will starve pretty fast. I bought one to take care of my over population in my 72 gallon. I placed it in a 5 gallon tank with a lot of purple rock covered in stars. Cleaned the tank out in a couple weeks. Then I had to rotate rock from my 72 to the 5 to keep him fed.

So if you don't have an excessive population of asterinas in another tank....or willing to sacrifice a chocolate chip or linkia star every month, then its probably a good idea to avoid them. I have a buddy that keeps a pair in a 5 gallon tank that hand feeds them asterinas daily using metal tongs.

Just put in the whole starfish. The shrimp will only eat what they need to. It's kind of like a moving buffet table.;D

Wow the animal kingdom isn't pretty lol so if I put the whole starfish in there and they only Eat like one leg at a time do u think it would survive and grow it back if I took it out and let it heal in another tank

That might possibly work. It depends on how fast the stars can regenerate legs.
