Are these compatable? I was researchng mandarin's and after reading a few sites they said that their minimum tank size should be a 20 gall. I will have a 46 bowfront setup for my green spotted puffer fish. I was originally thinking about putting 2 clownfish in with the puffer, but after looking up mandarin's i may change my mind. Is this a possible match? There would be about 90lbs of live rock in the tank

    They should generally be compatible.

Had both for almost a year with no issues (until puffer decided to launch out of the tank one day) - like salsalito said, most fish of a similar size USUALLY ignore mandarins/dragonettes unless it's a pseudochromis of some sort (in my experience they hate mandarins/dragonettes and pretty much anything else!)

Puffer has left my goby alone but did go after my chromis...Are you sure it wouldn't go after a clown fish???

I had a clown at the same time with the other 2 and never had an issue with the clown/puffer either. The puffers in my experience seem to get "curious" at first with new fish but usually calm down soon after.

I'm surprised it went after the chromis?? I have those as well and never had an issue with them either. How big is the GSP?

Mine is pretty small...He is NEW in the tank so like you said, he still might be in that curious stage, hopefully he won't bother my 6line wrasse or yellow tang.

Give it some time I'm sure it will be fine just may take a day or 2 for it to become comfortable with other fish K+

I would recommend a sump and a refugium to grow enough pods to keep the mandarin fed. It will eat all the pods in a 46g in no time at all and then it will starve.
