soooooo I want to have a mandarin goby and some little shrimp in my 8.5g.................now that I've given you time to calm down, here are the questions I have. If you are supplying a mandarin with pods from a fuge by switching balls of cheto from the fuge to the DT do you think it's more important to be taking the cheto out of a bigger fuge or to let the cheto sit in the fuge for a longer period of time? Will cheto grow in a happy healthy tank with out much fish poop? can it grow off "good clean" water or will it need some "bad stuff" for it to grow?

    +1 Zoanthids.
Even with a fuge, a 30 gallon would be a lot of work, and a risk would still remain. So an 8.5 gallon is definitely our of the question; sorry if I sound rude.

putting the eating fact aside, they have a maximum size of 4" so imagine a 3" fish that needs lots of room for "hunting" but also swimming.

    sorry

but if your gonna try in a bigger tank i would recomend not switching chaeto, and you can feed pythoplankton to them.

so any one even going to try to answer the questions? I've had a mandarin just fine for 3 years before circumstances forced my to give it away. You all know it can be done, ya it would be very hard and quite possibly more trouble than it's worth, but don't act like it's not possible. I've never seen a mandarin goby as a fish that needed "swimming room" food yes, but all of the one's I've seen are not aggressive swimmers at all.

do you mean chaeto or pods? to keep the chaeto alive just keep it under some lights. as for pods... they will eat detritus; if you dont have a lot of detritus feed them phytoplankton like 3 times a week.

yeh it can be done...just make sure you have a 55G refugium or are willing to pay $100 a week in pods to keep him fed, or else ur just gonna kill a beautiful fish
