As for the mandarin and the original question...I suppose it could be done. I certainly would not recommend it, but I would start by looking into the link that Kevin posted.

Now that's the first reply with something to it lol. I like the siphon method.
I'm not completely sure if I can answer why. I think it would be a mix of that I would like a little tank with just the things I really love in salt water, and partly because I pictured a fat little goby that did not need to go far for food, so he'd be chilling;D. Like I said I have not seen them as big swimmers and hoped it would be extra happy because I would hope to have plenty of pods for it.

lol. He had a good question. I'm just wondering if you, as well as the mandarin, would be happier, as well as healthier, if he/she was in a larger tank. You said you already have the 90g or something similar in size...why not use it?

I was about to ask the same thing Flaring Afro. Why don't you pur a mandarin in your main tank if you have the pods and chaeto flourishing already. Plus, the mandarin would have more than enough swimming space. You could even get a pair if you wanted. Not trying to be an antagonist, but thats my opinion.

As for the fighting, just cease it. I'm not trying to be a pacifist or suck-up. But when someone asks a question, we answer it to the best of our abilities. Even if someone gives an incorrect answer, its not right to attack them. And from the victims POV, I can understand retorting, but theres limit on that. Not trying to get in other peoples business...

A little off topic, but another suggestion I would give is to look into jellyfish with the mandarin-in-larger-tank-and-get-something-else route. You could get a small cylinder tank and find one that doesn't get big. That would be very cool.

I understand people get mad about things they care about. I respect that, but I can tell you from experience it wont help. I've had reefs for over 5years now and, I know it would be easier and probably will end up with one in my 55 (I have a 55 & a 40 plumbed together), but I've just always dreamed of having one in a nice rimless nano with some very nice, "some what high end coral" in with it. I guess part of it would be to do some thing that most people can't, but plain it right so it works.

Closed until I can read the whole thread.

In the mean time, I've seen a couple of posts that I'm more than a little disappointed in. Let's all resolve to be more responsible before hitting that "enter" key.

i do see how that could be tempting, that seems to be every hobbyists dream, se seem to be most interested in the most difficult. i have kept a mandarin in a 16 gallon, but it wat eating frozen foods. i strongly discourage it. its your tank you can do what you want, it probably can be done it probably has been done, it just doesnt seem right, its not a matter of food shortage, its space. so it would be equivelant to having a tang in a 55 gallon.

that would be pretty cool, you should try it. if you actually plan to fall through with that plan, post a new thread on "show off your tanks"... ould be pretty cool IMO
