My Mandarin jumped out of the tank sometime in the last hour!! I found her and got her into some water ASAP and she is breathing and moving around slightly but she is covered in this gooey substance. Does anyone know what this substance is? I'm not sure if I should try to remove it or not since when I try I seem to stress her out. She does appear to be making it. It is clear in color. Please help out, I really want her to live

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
It is normal for them to develop mucos when stressed. All you can do is hope for the best. I have saved many of my fish after jumping just to have them be perfectly fine.

    Good luck.

The gooey substance is the slime coat all fish have. It should clear up in few hours.

Mandarins have a slim coat even different from other fish.... they are scaleless.

Should I leave it alone or try to take off the excess amount?

maybe the goo is the same stuff they use at night to camouflage? Maybe a defense mechanism?

Leave it alone. The slime from our mandy killed two cromis and almost killed itself.

Night camo is a skin pigment change.

I would not touch her. Leave her alone and hope for the best.

i wouldnt do anything, would probably stress it more.

hope it works out for you

on a side note i have read the thick slime coat on mandarins make them very resistant to ich.
